Kawai MS-134 Master Series Upright Piano – New, Polished Ebony
The Kawai MS-134 is the flagship model in Kawai’s new Master Series of premium upright pianos, combining substantial acoustic scale with an exceptionally refined approach to touch, tone and construction. At 134 cm high, it is the largest upright in the range and represents the fullest expression of Kawai’s Master Series design.
The MS-134 has been created for pianists looking for the depth and authority of a large professional upright, together with the precision and responsiveness needed for detailed, expressive playing. Its 1,280 mm speaking length, six-post back structure and reinforced construction provide a substantial acoustic foundation, allowing the instrument to produce a powerful sound while retaining clarity and control.
At the heart of the instrument is a tapered solid spruce soundboard made from carefully selected, straight-grained quartersawn spruce. Kawai combines this with hand-wound bass strings, mahogany hammer mouldings and T-stapled, double-felted hammers to create the characteristic depth and tonal refinement of the Master Series.
The MS-134 also incorporates a level of scaling rarely encountered in an upright piano. Agraffes are fitted across the first 51 keys, while both front and rear duplex scaling extend the instrument’s harmonic response. A specially developed pressure bar and stainless steel bearing help provide a precise attack and clear resonance, particularly through the upper register.
The playing experience is supported by Kawai’s Millennium III action, using lightweight ABS-Carbon components and three die-cast aluminium action brackets for strength, consistency and long-term stability. NEOTEX white keys and ebony black keys provide a tactile surface designed for precise control.
Another distinctive Master Series feature is the combination of a true sostenuto pedal with a dedicated muffler mechanism. Both can be used simultaneously, giving the MS-134 unusual flexibility for advanced pedal work as well as quieter playing at home.
The cabinet has been designed specifically for the Master Series, with softly rounded proportions and a lift-up topboard inspired by a grand piano. Bird’s-eye maple interior detailing and polished brass fittings give the MS-134 a distinctive, understated luxury.
At 156 cm wide, 134 cm high and 66 cm deep, the Kawai MS-134 has an imposing presence while remaining an upright piano rather than a grand. It is the largest and most highly specified Kawai Master Series upright available.
