At the Blüthner Piano Centre, we specialise in the full restoration of Blüthner pianos of any age, returning each instrument to showroom condition while preserving its original character. Whether your piano is a family heirloom or a professional concert instrument, our factory-trained craftsmen carry out every restoration using official Blüthner parts and traditional techniques refined over more than 165 years.
Each fully restored instrument receives a Blüthner Certificate of Restoration, verifying the authenticity of the work and the continued legacy of your piano.
What’s Included in a Blüthner Factory Restoration:
Official Parts & Historical Accuracy
Blüthner pianos feature unique design elements like the Aliquot 4th string system and cylindrical crowned soundboard. Our restorations use original Blüthner tools, parts, and methods to maintain authenticity and performance.
Veneer & Cabinet Work
We expertly repair or replace damaged veneers, peeling finishes, and missing case parts using historically accurate materials to match the piano’s original design whether in black polish or exotic wood finishes.
Soundboard & Bridge Restoration
Depending on condition, the soundboard may be repaired or entirely replaced. Our team crafts an exact replica using precise measurements of the original. Bridge caps or full bridges are also restored or rebuilt.
Iron Frame Refinishing
The iron frame is removed, stripped to bare metal, sandblasted, and repainted to match its original appearance. A protective varnish seals and preserves the finish.
Pin Block Replacement
To ensure excellent tuning stability, the pin block is always replaced as part of a full restoration. This secures the tuning pins for decades of reliable performance.
Action, Hammers & Strings
With over 5,000 moving parts, the action is fully rebuilt including new hammers, felts, leathers, and any historical elements (such as the Julius Blüthner patented action). All strings are replaced and bass strings are hand-wound to original specifications. Blüthner blue felt is refitted for final detailing.
Voicing, Tuning & Final Finishing
Your piano will be tuned multiple times to stabilise the pitch at A440, then voiced to your preference. The hammer heads are carefully needled to reveal the signature Golden Tone. The restoration concludes with final cabinet polishing and cosmetic detailing.
